KPA Deepens Stakeholder Collaboration Ahead of Dongo Kundu Berth Construction
The Kenya Ports Authority will continue collaborating with the Mombasa port community which has plays an important role in enhancing port operational efficiency
Managing Director Capt. William Ruto today hosted forum for Mombasa port community CEOs in Mombasa. MD noted Since this framework was implemented, the port has seen notable advancements in coordinating stakeholder interactions, with the Port Community forums becoming essential for engagement.
KPA has assured stakeholders of the Authority’s commitment to continuous engagements, to sensitize communities on new and upcoming projects.
Today, KPA held discussions to create awareness on the upcoming construction of the Dongo Kundu Berth (DK1) project, which is a component of the Mombasa Special Economic Zones project.
Additionally, the Authority affirmed its willingness to address any concerns raised by the community before the construction commences. The community was in turn urged to back the involvement of youth in KPA-sponsored vocational training programs aimed at providing young people with valuable skills.
During the gathering, Mr. Mathews Wambugu, the Likoni Deputy County Commissioner, praised KPA of ongoing engagement. He highlighted the crucial role of the project in driving industrial growth and creating job opportunities.
The Dongo Kundu SEZ is being developed on 3000-acre land and will comprise a free port, industrial parks, free trade zones, logistics and warehousing, energy project areas, tourism, and MICE among other developments.
The SEZ will boost trade and spur economic growth through the expansion of manufacturing, growth of exports as well as positioning Kenya as a trade and logistics hub for the Eastern and Central Africa.
