  1. Invited guests, Esteemed stakeholders, Ladies and Gentlemen.

Good Evening,

I take great pleasure to host you tonight for this inaugural East Africa Maritime Awards Ceremony.

I want to appreciate each one of you for taking time out of your busy schedules to join us in this worthwhile event to celebrate our industry and the milestones we have so far achieved.

More often than not, we criticize ourselves and our abilities focusing on failures rather than the positive strides we make and our outright successes.

However, it is imperative to celebrate our achievements – even the slightest - because the secret behind celebrated gain is the motivation it yields to strive to outdo ourselves and triumph over any roadblocks that may stand in our way.

As the renowned Author, Robin Sharma once said, "Small daily improvements over time lead to stunning results."

As Kenya Ports Authority, we are delighted this evening because in this awards ceremony is the gesture of gratitude and trust in your abilities that most often we express in words and may be less in deeds.

I can assure you that the current KPA Board is focused on handling business matters from the stakeholder perspective by working closely with you - the port customer and the Management.  Kenya Ports Authority's Vision is to be "World Class Ports of Choice," and the Mission is to "Provide Efficient and Competitive Port Services to Facilitate Global Trade".  The Board is alive to this responsibility and is so far keeping abreast with the global maritime trends to ensure that the Port of Mombasa and indeed other upcoming ports operate at global standards for customer satisfaction.

To achieve the planned objectives, the KPA has developed a corporate strategy that is premised on four Strategic Themes, namely; Operational Excellence, Customer Service Excellence, Business Growth and Good Governance.

Achieving this will heavily rely upon modernizing infrastructure and ICT utilization to keep up with the ever-changing operations landscape, enhancing customer relations to cultivate trust and knowledge exchange, building revenues and financial stability through increased global and regional market presence, and finally creating a conducive work environment founded on the pillars of an ethical performance culture.

Whereas the plan and strategy are forward looking, several milestones have shown a demonstrable, progressive story which will go a long way to complement the efforts of other players in the logistics industry as we all move with concerted approach towards achieving a common goal – Excellence.

We are, therefore, continually working towards becoming world class ports offering competitive services. This means we aim to contribute significantly towards reducing cost of doing business by enhancing excellence. With your continued support, we are confident that we are headed in the right direction.

Equally, we are positive that the honors some of you will receive tonight reflect your output and performance in your actual day-to-day service delivery. The ideal scenario for any service provider is that your undertakings should embody integrity, hard work, sincerity, fairness, and above all efficiency.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

We profoundly appreciate the support we have from our parent Ministry in close liaison with other government agencies. As it has been witnessed by different parties that have worked closely with KPA to put the awards idea into fruition, so should all of us in the industry synergize our efforts for the common good.

In conclusion, allow me to once again congratulate the winners of the various awards - it is well deserved. I am also thankful to the organizers for a wonderful evening which would not have been possible without their hard work, meticulous planning and coordination.

Thank you all and God Bless You.
