KPA KAMPALA LIAISON OFFICE
The Kampala Liaison Office was established in 1996 to serve the transit market clientele and to bring services closer to home for the Uganda market in particular. The office is situated on the 5 th Floor of Short Tower Crested Towers in Kampala. The move to have the Kampala liaison office has attracted positive growth over the years in terms of creating customer awareness, fostering affirmative publicity,
stakeholder relations and improved revenue collections. On the other hand it has created job opportunities to 6 staff from previous four.
The port of Mombasa remains the port of choice for Uganda’s international trade and a lot has to be done in order to maintain this relationship in the coming years. Major export commodities for Uganda to the port of Mombasa are; Tea, Coffee, Cocoa,
Cotton and Skins/Hides while imports are Oil products, Steel Coils, Machinery and equipment, Rice etc.
Key stakeholders in Uganda are the Kenya High Commission, Ministry of Trade, Industry and Co-operatives, Uganda Revenue Authority, Uganda Shippers Council, Uganda Manufacturers association, Uganda Freights Forwarders Association, Uganda clearing industry and Forwarders Association etc.
The Northern Corridor has four Weighbridges; the first one is at Mariakani targeting the port, Mlolongo for Arusha traffic, Gilgil for Nairobi trucks. The trucks are weighed only twice at the point of entry and exit. The office is in charge of visiting both current and prospective customers to understand their business needs, their challenges and offer permanent solutions, it also offer customer care and awareness on port process/procedures/ invoicing & Tariff interpretation/cargo status/waiver applications etc.
The office takes part in Port accounts registration for both SAP BILLER DIRECT KWATOS in client registration.
Clients who require training on SCT, KWATOS and SAP BILLER DIRECT are provided in-house.
