Nilfat is an advocate of the High Court of Kenya with a Master of Laws (LLM) degree in International Economic Law from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from Moi University, Kenya. She is soon to be a certified Islamic Finance Expert.

Nilfat has both a legal and finance background having worked in the legal sector and advised financial institutions in Kenya on compliance and risk management. She has also published on sustainable development in the African Journal of International Commercial Law.
